One of the Boys: Menswear-Inspired Vegan Fashion

A couple of weeks ago, when I was browsing through films on Netflix, I stumbled on the french film Je Ne Suis Pas Homme Facile (I am not an easy man). Damien, a stereotypical douche bag, wakes up in a world dominated by women where he meets Alexandra, who’s a successful author. With the table turned in this film, it really hits you how much women actually have to adjust to today’s patriarchal society, and it makes you think even more about society’s gender roles. I loved it so much that I had to watch it a second time a week later.

I was also very inspired of the fashion in the film. Alexandra dressed in a lot of blazers, shirts and denim. A very simple and minimalistic style that works for a lot of different occasions. I’ve picked out some garments and accessories for you to get the look. Everything is of course vegan and the majority comes from sustainable and ethical brands as well.

SUIT UP

The well-fitting suit is a simple way to look stylish in a second, whatever your gender. Go for a classic grey one or pick one that’s a bit more quirky with a pattern. For the complete “business look”, simply go for a shirt underneath. Add some gorgeous vegan lace-up shoes from Beyond Skin and a clutch from sustainable brand Matt & Nat and you’re suited.

1. Blue shirt, Armedangels / 2. Black clutch, Matt & Nat / 3. Silver bracelet, Rêve En Vert / 4. White shirt, People Tree / 5. Grey trousers, Filippa K / 6. Grey suit jacket, Filippa K / 7. Black flat lace up shoes, Beyond Skin / 8. Blue blazer, H&M Conscious Exclusive / 9. Blue trousers, H&M Conscious Exclusive

CASUAL

If you feel like a more casual look, go for a classic pair of jeans. Pick dark blue ones if you want to copy Alexandra and match it with a white t-shirt and throw on a blazer. Add some accessories to make it your own. If you still feel like wearing a set but don’t want to go for the suit, why not pick a more loosely fitted one. I’m in love with this set from Stella McCartney – sophisticated yet relaxed.

1. Black short sleeve shirt, Stella McCartney / 2. Black trousers, Stella McCartney / 3. Gold earrings, Rêve En Vert / 4. Black tote, Melie Bianco / 5. Black blazer, Zara / White t-shirt, Monki / 7. Dark blue denim, Mud Jeans / 8. Black flat shoes, Matt & Nat
