Meet Team Vilda: Travel Writer Kathi Kamleitner

A relatively recent addition to Team Vilda, Kathi is a Scotland-dwelling travel lover who is madly in love with all things Scottish – on her blog Watch Me See, she even offers tours of her city of Glasgow. Here at Vilda, we have gladly followed along with her to meet the women who run Glasgow’s vegan scene, on a food and fashion voyage around Paris, and to go vintage shopping in Edinburgh, to name a few!

Where in the world are you based?
I live in Glasgow, Scotland.

What do you love about being on Team Vilda?
I only really became more interested in fashion, since I turned vegan and wanted to learn more about a sustainable and ethical lifestyle. I love how on Vilda I always find new inspiration for clothes, accessories, beauty products, boutiques and so on. It’s just yet another proof to me, that a more ethical way of consumption is possible.

What’s your favourite piece that you’ve done for Vilda
I’ve only joined the team in early 2018, but my favourite piece so far is my reflection on traveling Thailand as a vegan. I’m very interested in how my veganism also intersects with other things I think about, especially feminism and colonialism. I’m happy to have found a platform on Vilda, where I can bring all these thoughts together.

Describe your personal style in three words.
Minimalistic; practical; laid-back.

What’s your favourite food?
Oooooh, difficult choice. I love a tangy paella with smoked tofu through it!

What’s the last song you listened to?
Rekjavik’ by Sykur.

What are some places that you dream of visiting?
I love going north, so on my dream bucket list are Greenland, northern Canada, and Alaska. But I also hope to go hiking in Patagonia one day, and visit more of Africa – I’ve only been to Zambia and Tanzania so far.

What would you do if you won £10million in the lottery tomorrow?
I can’t even imagine how much you could do with that kind of money. I would definitely want to donate a lot of it and set up scholarship programmes for women to study, do research or travel. I would definitely go and travel the world for a while; maybe invest in a car to be location independent for a while.

If you were reincarnated as an animal, what would you be?
I would probably be a cat – even though they’re carnivores. Sleep a lot; cuddle, but only when I really want to; and run around outside.

What’s your favourite colour?
Green, although I find it incredibly hard to find nice green clothes…

What’s the scariest thing you’ve ever done?
Luckily, I’ve only done mundane scary things – like jumping off a 5m cliff in Croatia or climb up a steep wall in the Scottish Highlands.

Would you do it again?
For sure!

Who would play you in a movie about your life?
I would hope someone as amazing as Michelle Williams.

What’s your favourite quote?
I don’t know who said this, but here goes: Do what is right, not what is easy.
