Ethical Vegan Ankle Boots to Elevate Your Spring Look

“Springtime is finally here,“ I thought yesterday, when the sun came out and we had a wonderful warm day in Hamburg. This morning, I woke up to a grey sky and big rain drops hammering against my window. If you are not lucky enough, to live in California or Australia, you probably know the feeling. And you probably also ask yourself the same question over and over again: What shoes should I wear? Sandals or white sneakers? Bad idea, if you don’t want to get wet toes. Winter boots? Definitely too warm! Vegan ankle boots? Yes, please! More solid than summer shoes, they can stand rain and muddy ground. Usually ankle boots are not lined, so your feet don’t get too hot. And last but not least, the versatility of these designs is second to none: easy to match with everything from denim dresses to tailored trousers, ankle boots are an easy style solution to any “what to wear” conundrum.

Our favourite pairs are made from resistant vegan materials to last through the seasons, and crafted with respect for people and the planet. Here are some of the pairs we will be wearing this season and beyond:

Wear this sleek pair with a floral dress in summer or team it with faux-leather trousers in winter – the Offshore design from PETA-approved Spanish brand ByBlanch is top-notch when it comes to versatility. What makes them even better is the fact that they are made from eco- and animal friendly materials. And kindness rocks, right?

Known for their chic and sustainable vegan bags, Canadian brand Matt & Nat branched out into shoes two years ago, beautifully complementing their accessory range with high-quality sustainable footwear. This pair has a sturdy heel which makes long walks easy – and the chocolate hue is a nice change from black. Plus, they’re on sale now!

Every woman should call a classic black pair of vegan ankle boots her own – and Pam is the perfect choice. The combination of black vegan leather, a contrasting beige sole, a simple design and a chunky heel is sophisticated and timeless. Much like the Matt & Nat pair, these are on sale now – so snap ’em up before they’re gone.

Vaguely reminiscent of Mary Poppins, this pair is a recent discovery of mine at Bead & Reel – I immediately fell in love with the vintage feel of this design that will add a quirky elegance to a shift dress or cropped jeans and a faux leather jacket. Bhava’s collections are handmade in Spain using vegan leather, eco-suede, cork and wood.

Recreate your very own La La Land moment with these faux suede heels resembling the dancing shoes, Emma Stone wore in her role as Mia. Break off the old-school vibe with a denim shift or a simple black shirtdress for an easy everyday look that will effortlessly go from morning to cocktails.

A luxe shade of dove gray and a discreetly patterned heel add contemporary flair to this high ankle boot from the queen of vegan accessories, Stella McCartney. If you’re looking to splash out on a luxury shoe that you won’t keep for special occasions but that will become a trusted day-to-day companion, look no further. You’ve found it.
