Are You Beach Body Ready? (No, Not Like That)

….come on, did you really think we’d stoop as low as body-shaming? No way. Forget everything you’ve heard about crash dieting in order to look hot on the seaside. In Vilda world, all you need to be beach-body ready is a body ready to hit the beach!

Well, not quite. While hanging out in our most stylish sustainably made bikinis, we also like to pack a soft, fluffy towel, some sunscreen…and a few other essentials. Whether you’ll be heading for your local beach or travelling to sunnier climes, we’ve got your beach body survival kit covered (no calorie-counting allowed).

1. Sunglasses

A pair of stylish sunnies are a must-have for a day at the beach. For an eco-friendly option, choose a pair of Bambooka sunglasses, which are handmade from strong and sustainable bamboo. The profits from Bambooka go to Vision Aid Overseas, an international charity who are fighting poverty by transforming access to eyecare. Each pair of glasses sold will enable those in need to have an eye test and vision correction.

2. Aftersun

If you’ve spent all day in the sun, chances are your skin will be in need of cooling and moisturising. This aftersun gel lotion by Tropic is enriched with aloe vera to hydrate, calendula to calm and eucalyptus to cool the skin. Not only does it help to revive sun-damaged skin, reduce redness and relieve the effects of prickly heat, it also helps to accelerate your natural tan development!

3. Insect Repellent

There’s nothing more annoying than having to keep shooing away insects while trying to relax in the sun. Neal’s Yard Remedies Citronella Formula is a cooling citrus body spray that is ideal for helping to repel insects thanks to its blend of witch hazel and organic essential oils including citronella, lavender, eucalyptus, cypress and clove.

4. Lip Balm

Lips are often forgotten when it comes to sun protection. Hurraw Sun Protection Balm SPF15 is a rich and creamy organic lip balm infused with non-nano zinc oxide to help protect your lips from the sun’s UVA and UVB rays. A blend of cold-pressed oils help to moisturise, protect and heal, while tangerine, chamomile and vanilla nourish and calm the lips.

5. Beach Towel

A beach towel is a must for a visit to the coast. Traditional beach towels can often be big and bulky, so for a more travel-friendly option, why not invest in a Turkish towel? Handmade from 100% organic cotton, this luxuriously soft, quick-drying towel will easily fit in your beach bag or luggage. It’s incredibly versatile too, doubling up as a sarong, scarf or yoga mat.

6. Water Bottle

To stay hydrated in the sun, it’s really important to sip water regularly. Although reusable water bottles are better for the environment than bottled water, many of them are made from environmentally harmful plastics. Opt for a safer stainless steel one instead, such as the H2Onya bottle, which has a curved design to prevent it slipping out of your hands. It also features a wide mouth so you can add ice and fruit to help keep your water cool and even more refreshing.

7. Wipes

Yes to Coconut all-in-one wipes easily cleanse and moisturise your face, hands and body – perfect for freshening up in the heat! Coconut water and kukui nut extract are added to gently cleanse away dirt and makeup, while orchid extract helps to seal moisture into the skin thanks to its naturally occurring sugars and polysaccharides. These natural wipes are free from parabens, SLS and phthalates and are compostable too.

8. Sun Cream

Suncream is crucial for helping to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays. Many products contain potentially harmful chemical sunscreens, so pick one that uses physical sunscreens like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, such as Jason Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30. This broad spectrum cream helps to protect against both UVA and UVB rays and is ideal for sensitive skin. It also contains a blend of chamomile and calendula extracts to help calm and soothe the skin.

9. Hydrosol

Quinessence Aromatherapy’s refreshing peppermint hydrosol is ideal for helping to cool you down when it’s really hot. Simply spritz all over your body to help beat the heat and leave you feeling invigorated.

10. Repair Gel

If you’ve been applying your sun cream and insect repellent religiously throughout the day as well as covering up with a chic sun hat and kaftan, hopefully your skin will be free from sunburn and insect bites. If, however, you do find yourself with a little sunburn or a bite, PHB Ethical Beauty’s Skin Repair Gel will help to calm, soothe and relieve irritated skin. It contains organic aloe vera to deeply nourish, protect and heal, plus soothing organic lavender for its antibacterial properties. This handy gel also helps with cuts, burns and stings – a must-have for your beach bag.
