Vivid colours, in-your-face graphics and a powerful message: “you’re not the only motherf**ker on this planet”. That’s how London-based urbanwear brand 8Dix interprets the animal rights philosophy, with four t-shirt designs created in collaboration with PETA. Designer duo Luca Marchetto, former design assistant to no other than Vivienne Westwood, and Jordan Bowen, former milliner to Stephen Jones, have blended their edgy aesthetic with the fight to free the animals held captive in the meat and fashion industries.
Emblazoned with slogans “God Hates Furs” (poking fun at the Westboro Baptist Church’s homophobic messages), “Hell for Leather”, “Fry Your Sins” and “Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter”, the designs are guaranteed to attract attention – wallflowers need not apply. The capsule collection has been immortalised in a photoshoot at London’s Big Sky Studios, where photographer Alexei Alexander snapped models in eye-catching makeup holding protest signs to create a “fashion activist” vibe.
The organic-cotton designs come in two sizes: a more snugly fitting tank and an oversized tee that look as striking as a men’s tank as they do as a women’s minidress. “Try vegan” is scrawled across the back and a part of the proceeds will be donated to PETA’s campaign work.
