Header_re

The biggest party night of the year is around the corner and it is not the night to hold back on the glitz and glamour. If there’s one night where you can go all out it’s definitely New Year’s Eve. Whether you’re ringing in the new year in your show-stopping sequined dress or a sophisticated LBD, you can always add some more sparkle to your look with your makeup. Fortunately, Vilda has created the perfect party look for you to copy or just to get inspired by. Read ahead to find out how it’s done.

It’s going to be a long evening, so do start with a primer that will make your party makeup stay put well over midnight. Apply your favorite foundation, and hide any spots or under-eye circles with a concealer of your choice. Whenever there’s eye-focus, the brows are essential, so fill them in and use a brow gel to make the hairs stay in place. Now that you’re done with the basics, it’s time to move on to the eyes. If you’re not used to putting on party makeup, the thought of applying glitter might be off-putting. After all, the look you’re going for is glamour, not 5-year-old child playing with glitter, right? We get it, but really, there’s no need to worry – this look is easy and quick to do. Here’s how:

step1-1

1. Apply loose powder under the eyes, this will pick up any loose eyeshadow or glitter. Next, apply an eyeshadow primer on your lids. Then apply an eyeshadow of your choice on the outer and inner parts of your eyelid. Here, I’ve used the deep brown shade (far left on the bottom row) from the Storm i-Divine Eye Shadow Palette from Sleek Makeup. Apply the same shadow, with a small shadow brush, around the edges of the lower eyelid. On the middle part of the top eyelids, apply a light shadow. I used the shimmering vanilla white from the same palette (second from the left, top row).

2. Apply E.l.f Expert Liquid Liner in Stardust on the lighter middle part of your eyelid, where you applied the white shadow. The eyeliner will give a nice glittery effect, but not the kind of sparkle we’re after. Instead, it will serve as a glitter glue. Of course, you can also use E.l.f’s glitter primer to apply it, but the eyeliner works just as well and serves more purposes.

3. Now apply loose glitter on top of the glitter eyeliner. It’s important you don’t let the glitter eyeliner dry, so apply the loose glitter one eye at the time, straight after step 2. Apply it with a brush that has quite stiff hairs, I used the Brow Brush from Real Techniques Starter Set. Though many brands sell eye-makeup specific glitters, the ones you can purchase in your local hobby shop work just as well, in my experience, and are much cheaper. Be sure to buy the ones with small glitter particles, as the big ones can get in your eyes.

4. Blend the colours and the glitter as much as you like, apply black eyeliner and some fake eyelashes. I’ve used these ones from E.l.f, but there are many great synthetic eyelashes out there.

Top the look off with sexy, matte red lips – here using the LASplash Cosmetics Smitten LipTint Mousse in Inflamed. This is a fantastic red lipstick because it truly lasts all night, even after you’ve eaten your vegan three-course menu, sipped on more than one glass of champagne and enjoyed that New Year’s kiss.

Et voilà – you’re ready to sparkle all night long!
